THE GAME

The skies are thick with the cries of crows - and it's up to you to clear them out! Battle a horde of birds with your trusty RT Reizo-390 LaserRifle™, and gather allies along the way - do try to avoid the bullets, though! What's the highest score you could get? I'd love to hear it in the comments!

CONTROLS

Controls, for the curious:

  • Left mouse movement - move your flock
  • Left mouse button - fire
  • Right mouse button - gather your birds in tight formation

And that's it! You don't even need a keyboard.

MY THOUGHTS

It was good fun making this game, particularly on the polish side of things (related to finishing up the game, not the country). Comparing it to past shmups I've made, it's definitely an improvement on how fun it is to play with, and how easy the thing feels to control, at least in my opinion. I would've liked to get more content done, though, since there's not much beyond the main gameplay loop of shooting things, and some more variety in enemies and player characters would also be great to see. Even some sort of progression between playthroughs, like buying new bird types or different levels, could've been useful - if only I had infinite time! Still, for only 48 hours over a weekend it's a good start, and I can always come back to it and easily add more content, so there't that! And, of course, I get to keep everything I learned in making the game as well. I hope you liked playing it as much as I liked making it!

Really cool game. There is a cheat I found, the birdmada follows mouse position even if it is outside the screen. I have dual monitors and the game was on the right monitor when I took the mouse on the left monitor the birds followed there and as I can guess the enemy birds’ projectiles don’t reach there as they get disappear bc of limits. This allowed me to just put the birds there and shoot with a big birdmada without getting hit.

Thanks! And I'll have to get round to fixing it - it does seem a bit unfair. Thanks for pointing it out!

More development on this would be great! I think later levels would benefit a lot from enemy shots that can hit more than one player bird at once, like piercing shots that don't despawn when they hit the first bird, or rockets with an explosion area of effect.

Ooh, I like the sound of that, different bullet types would really add some variety. Thank you for the idea!

I started playing the game, got a big fleet and didn't want to stop. I tried getting to the score limit of 6 digits but then you just added another digit onto the score >:(

Great job lol, I really should've stopped ages ago.

Hah, I wasn't actually sure if anyone would get that far, but made sure it'd still work past 6 digits just in case - glad it paid off!
